Cabo Polonio

One of the most diverse places in Uruguay is Cabo Polonio. Cabo Polonio is a town inside of a National Park, along the east coast of Uruguay with a few scattered islands along its beaches. The town was founded around 1881, and the National Park of Cabo Polonio was founded in 2009, to maintain the town's animals, plants, and overall state of being. Cabo Polonio has  many natural environments including sandy beaches, rocky points, sand dunes, native coastal forest, small wetlands, oceanic environments, and islands. The village is surrounded by two beaches: Calavera Beach and Sur Beach. On the islands near Cabo Polonio, are almost half of Uruguay's sea lion and fur seal populations. Its areas are used for the reproduction and breeding of these species, so as to not let these animals go extinct. One characteristic about Cabo Polonio that makes it so unique is that it has no electricity, running water, or any roads leading to it. The shops and restaurants of Cabo Polonio are powered by wind turbines, generators, or a soft candlelight. Tourists who look to visit this town usually drive off-road vehicles over the sand dunes to get there. Overall, Cabo Polonio is one of the most unique sites in Uruguay, and there is no other place like it.
